An Overview of Federal Grants for Small Businesses

An Overview of Federal Grants for Small Businesses

Thursday, November 14, 2019 9:00am to 11:00am
FREE

Contrary to what you might have heard, there are not a lot of grants available for small businesses from the US government. But, if you have an innovative product idea, or if you think your unique product or service might be of interest to the federal government, there may be a grant available to help bring your idea to the market.

This presentation will examine two legitimate sources of information on federal grants – grants.gov and the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Both are free to apply.

We will cover four topics:

  • How federal grants work
  • How to avoid scams
  • An overview of grants.gov
  • An overview of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program

Presenter: David Walker, Shasta-Cascade SBDC Center Director. He has 35 years of entrepreneurial and business management experience.  Over this time, David has started and managed two tech companies and has counseled hundreds of business owners in his own consulting practice and as well as technology commercialization counselor in the SBDC network.  He has been involved with several federal SBIR contracts and grants and serves as a peer reviewer for SBIR grant proposals.

*Please note this event has been rescheduled to November 14th (origininally set for November 7th).
